Extremis

2018

The Challenge

For nearly 25 years, Extremis has been developing pioneering furniture for inside and outside. Always from a different approach, and always outdoing the previous collection. From the beginning, the designers are mindful of the impact their products have on the surroundings. For the most recent brand book the question was: how do we put into words the sustainability thought process behind Extremis?

Green Idea

What was the common thread Brand Senses could introduce throughout this brand book? We used the famed Shaker quote as the basis, which has long been a source of inspiration for Extremis: "Don't make something unless it is both made necessary and useful; but if it is both necessary and useful, don't hesitate to make it beautiful."

In essence however, sustainability requires a time factor, so we moved the focus to the impact on future generations: “If you leave traces for future generations, make those traces valuable”. This fits neatly within the Shaker philosophy, but at the same time provides a solid perspective from which to share Extremis’ sustainability narrative.

Groovy Love

We summarize it as follows:

  • The reason for developing something is to generate a positive impact.
  • The result should also inspire, fan the flame of creativity for future generations.
  • The material is very durable, allowing for optimal product enjoyment.
  • Design helps make the difference. Aesthetics are probably the best way to allow people to enjoy a useful idea for as long as possible.

Great results

The latest Extremis brand book very clearly focused on sustainability. Provided with interesting content, which was easily connected to the basic idea we developed for Extremis.
